Is grey a colour? This was a poll I ran in a recent webinar. Some said, “yes.”Some said, “no.”Some said, “ok, sure.”That, to me, was funny. (Funny “haha” or funny “peculiar”? Both, I suppose.) I have to admit, the “sure” was me.Grey has gotten a bad reputation for being boring. It joins other forgettable colours like beige and taupe. But you can still do something really cool with grey if you know how to use it. Grey lets accent colours pop. Like this amazing mural on a building that uses Steni panels. It’s all shades of grey, but the subject’s lips stand out in a contrasting colour.Despite the potential for boredom with grey, sometimes we need it. Grey is dignified. We are used to seeing grey in our government buildings. And there is a reason for this.I might not take a bright green courthouse that seriously. It’s totally acceptable in grey though. The downside to grey is that you can end up with city blocks of cool-toned buildings.BORING.But it doesn’t have to be.There's a wide variety if you explore greys a little more closely.I was just working on a project using Steni panels, and I showed them that we could use a bunch of different shades to give the building some life.I think that’s the secret to using grey.Find different finishes, shades, and textures to add that visual interest. If you want to debate whether grey is a colour, I’ll be at the 2024 OAA conference. Come find me, and I’ll tell you more about the results of my poll.#OAAconf#facades#facadedesigns

The fact that we’re conditioned to “not take something seriously” by virtue of it being a beautiful colour is the real issue. If you like grey, like grey. Great. But even nature knows that beauty is essential and paints itself with a full spectrum of stunning colours. Who ever decided that colour and beauty equated to frivololity? 🙄

Think of your ceiling as a silent storyteller. Each design element, from the curve of moulding to the colour of the paint, tells a story about the space it encompasses. It’s not just a shelter; it’s a narrative. But what story is your ceiling telling? Is it a tale of innovation, with integrated technology and eco-friendly materials? Or is it a historical narrative, respecting and reflecting the building's past? Here’s how to ensure your ceiling’s story is worth telling: - Context is key: Align your ceiling design with the room's purpose and character. - Detailing matters: Even the smallest features can add depth and interest.Balance function and form: Aesthetic appeal should never overshadow practicality. Remember, every ceiling has the potential to be a storyteller. Make sure yours is narrating a story worth looking up to.#ceilings #ceilingdesign #interiordesign

Here's a checklist to use when filming your next Program:(Tips for setting up a space or room)When setting up a space or room for video interviews to promote Programs, it's important to create a professional and distraction-free environment that effectively communicates the intended message. Here are the top three tips to consider:Lighting: Ensure the room is well-lit, with natural light or soft artificial lighting that illuminates your face evenly. Avoid harsh shadows or backlighting that can make you appear silhouetted. Background: Choose a clean, clutter-free background that is not distracting. A plain wall or a backdrop with subtle branding related to the Program can be effective. Ensure that any visible elements in the background are appropriate and reinforce the message of the Program.Sound Quality: Minimise echo and background noise by choosing a quiet room and using soft furnishings like carpets, curtains, or acoustic panels to absorb sound.Camera Setup and Framing: Position the camera at eye level to create a natural, engaging perspective. Avoid angles that are too high or too low, which can be unflattering or convey a sense of imbalance.#VideoProduction #Education #Program #TrainingGot a Program you'd like to promote? Hey FrameWorks Friends! We had the honor of framing and collaging 1500 tiny square film slides. In order to make this happen, we had to build an entirely custom frame. Once the frame was built and ready, Andres began the back lighting. Using LED strips hand soldered together, the back lighting board was finished. Now, the last steps were actually collaging the film slides together. There’s 1500 slides of all shapes and sizes, but Andres and Myron managed to fit them all perfectly. The film board was sandwiched between the glass and the LED back lighting. The final result looks so cool, but wait until we switch the lights on. Hundreds of images greet you, each one different than the next. Projects like these are so great because you can tell how personalized and hand made they are. Every project is done delicately and precisely to our clients wishes. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next time. As always, be limitless. Ever walked into a room and instantly felt a certain way? That's the power of color psychology at play. We've all been in spaces that don't quite feel right, and often, it's a color misstep that's to blame. Color impacts our mood, productivity, and even appetite, making it a crucial but often overlooked aspect of design. Our designers don't just pick colors- they curate emotions. We understand the psychology behind hues, using them to create spaces that evoke calm, inspire creativity, or encourage relaxation, aligning your environment with your goals and feelings.Ready to paint your space with purpose? Let's connect, and together, we'll craft a color palette that speaks to your soul and transforms your space. #colorpsychology #emotionaldesign #interiordesign #paint #roompaint #StudioMaeInteriors

In a recent conversation, with one of our existing clients, we brought up cost-efficientsolutions - when it was discovered during construction that the space was forcing them to spend an extra $20k for an ugly and unexpected structural issue. Suddenly, the original plan was no longer an option. So our team browsed through the original design plan and researched solutions. Buried in our archives, we remembered a similar problem at one of our past projects. In this space, we had a beautiful wallpaper sourced originally (bold, graphic, vivid) and learned that we did not afford to install it. So we came up with solutions. Not bad at all!...#perpetuumdesigns #hospitality #interiordesign #designsolutions #restaurantdesign

Ever found it challenging to get the colours just right on-site?Let me tell you why it can be a real issue. Colours can appear different because of how materials react to light and the ever-changing lighting conditions.💡 Here's my approach to ensure accurate colour representation: I always take a few practical steps. First, I start by testing sample materials right in the actual space to see how they'll look. Then, I pay close attention to the type of light – whether it's warm or cool – to keep colours accurate. Plus, considering the Color Rendering Index (CRI) of light sources is crucial.🌞 I also check how natural light changes throughout the day and across different seasons. With regular visits to the construction site, I can catch any colour issues early on and fix them without any major hassle. How do you ensure colour accuracy on your projects?Let's exchange tips! #OnSiteChallenges #InteriorDesign #ConstructionSite #DesignTips #ArchitecturalDesign

By launching the design through a curation of images, we anchor all the decisions to create a consistent and constant visual story. These nine simple squares provide guidance, direction, and rules for every decision in the broader scheme. If we, as designers of spaces, are the authors of the story, the squares are the narrative, enabling a cohesive scheme to be read across the finished space. #interiordesignuk #interiordesigner #britishdesigner #britishinteriordesign #britishinteriors #quintessentiallybritish #interiorstylingtips #VisualstorytellingUK #Designersnarrative #Cohesivespacescheme
