Today marks the 166th death anniversary of Manikarnika Tambe, more widely known as Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi.Taking a deeper look at her decade long governance in Jhansi with Lakshmi Bai at the helm of affairs, there have been ample evidences of historical interpretations suggesting that her conduct, both as a ruler and a military leader, was influenced by the Indian treatise on Leadership and Governance - the Arthashaastra. Here are some examples how Rani Lakshmi Bai's actions exemplified the qualities of a great leader according to the Arthashaastra:1. Heeymaan and Dandanyaya: Lakshmi Bai was renowned for her strong leadership and her commitment to maintaining justice and order in her kingdom, earning her the loyalty of her people. Dandanyaya highlights the ability to lead and nurture a large group, while Heeymaan, embodies a sense of conscientiousness.2. Sandhi Vikram and Parachidra Vibhagau are Leadership qualities mentioned in the Arthashaastra. They describe a leader's ability to know when to negotiate and create treaties, and the ability to identify and strike at the opponent's weakest point at the right time. It is believed that Lakshmi Bai had a network of informants to keep track of British movements and plans, allowing her to make informed decisions.3. Shakya Samanto , Shaurya, Daaksham: Rani Lakshmi Bai's had the Shaurya / courage and and Shakya Samanto/ alertness and skill in gathering and analysing of information to utilize unique tactics to fortify Jhansi as a stronghold, and her agility and ability/ Daaksham to lead her troops effectively in battle echo these principles.4. Dirgh Dur Darshi, Far reaching and foresighted and forming strategic alliances - The Arthashaastra advocates forming alliances using diplomacy to strengthen one's position. Rani Lakshmi Bai had great foresight and and formed strategic alliances with other Indian leaders, such as Nana Sahib and Tatya Tope, to collectively resist the British forces.Rani Lakshmi Bai's valour and patriotism light the eternal flame of inspiration in the hearts of millions.#arthashaastra #ranilakshmibai #manikarnika

Amaatya Sampat Excellences of Manager or Head of Department- An Amaatya is the bridge between the Leader and the rest of the organization. In continuation to the excellences of the Amaatya ,the quality of Sampriyo (Amiable or approachable) in a leader signifies someone who is friendly, warm, and accessible, fostering an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and concerns. This leadership style builds trust, enhances collaboration, and increases morale, leading to a more inclusive and effective workplace. JRD Tata exemplified these qualities, gaining acceptance as a leader among notable professionals due to his people skills. Similarly, Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo, is recognized for her approachability and open-door policy, which contributed to the company's growth and innovation by fostering loyalty and high performance among her team.#arthashaastra #jrdleadership #trust#approachableleadership #amiable #LeadershipExcellences #indranooyi

Excellences of a Manager / Amaatya Sampat - Powerful Communication Skills or VaagmiIn the continuing series of Amaatya Sampat we move on to discuss one of the most important qualities required in the role of a Manager /Deputy. VAAGMI - The word has its origin from the Sanskrit word VAK which means word or speech. The term embodies the qualities of articulate and effective Communication.Effective communication, especially for a deputy or representative, requires accuracy, eloquence, and political correctness. This involves using correct and clear language, fluently and persuasively conveying ideas, and being sensitive and inclusive to avoid offense.A manager/deputy must faithfully represent the leader's vision and handle interactions with diplomacy, ensuring respectful, neutral, and impartial communication.Leaders like JRD Tata and Nelson Mandela exemplified this by treating everyone equally, passionately defending their beliefs without imposing them, and being open to opposing views, demonstrating a balance of assertiveness and humility essential for effective leadership. They used their communication skills to inspire and mobilize people, while always being respectful and inclusive. #effectivecommunication #eloquence #vaagmi #Sanskrit #respect #inclusive

Chiranjeev Gurukul (CG) is known for its active role in promoting Eternal Indian wisdom through various innovative platforms and activities. It could be through Sammelan, KathaShaala, ShodhYatra ,weekly blogs, Seva Retreats or the meticulously charted leadership courses. One of the most anticipated activities is the ShodhYatra which happens every year.ShodhYatra literally translates toShodh = to findYatra = journey Where a leader (read Swami or Swamini) embarks on a journey of searching. But what exactly is one searching for here? Specifically, a ShodhYatra refers to the journey a leader undertakes in search of deeper understanding and enlightenment. The team at LPSG(Living Philosophy Study Group Founded by Rajesh Kamath ) and CG takes immense efforts to put together a week long expedition in order to provide a participant, a slice from the journey of grassroots Leaders such as the Amte Parivar and Anandvan, NKC and Jaipur Rugs, Popatraoji and Hivre Bazaar, Anna ji Hazare and Ralegan Siddhi, etc. Through this detailed study, they create Roadmaps for Utthistha Bhaarat.Participants are provided with the opportunity to observe and emulate the daily routines and decision-making processes. This hands-on experience helps in understanding how to work effectively, earn responsibly, live ethically, and contribute positively to both, nature and society. Those interested in such transformative journeys should keep an eye on CG's updates about ongoing ShodhYatra musings and jump on board to join the next expedition. Remember - A ShodhYatra not only enriches participants with practical knowledge but also inspires them to become better leaders rooted in the timeless wisdom.Images from the recent Shodhyatra to Mitticool, Wankaner Gujarat #arthashaastra #ShodhYatra #fieldtrips #Mitticool #findyourpurpose #uttishtabharata #Indianwisdom #indianleaders

'Swami' : "Cultivating A Purpose-Driven Leadership for Organizational Prosperity"Very recently, Malaka Spice hosted an event for a few alumni of ISB to discuss their recent feature of Arthashaastra Case Study of Malaka Spice as a Harvard University Business Case. As an audience who had the privilege of being a part of this extremely enlightening session, a few concepts struck gold for me – the first, being the Arthashaastra version of a Swami.A Swami (or Swamini) can be aptly translated to regular English as a leader, a ruler or a king.In Arthashaastra, a Swami represents the central core of an organisation. While most businesses work on a static pyramidal structure, which has a solid foundation, and layers filled as crew, employees, clients, etc, and mostly, the Swami or the leader at the top of the triangle; the Kautilyan analogy is that of a circular thought process – where the Swami is at the center (core) of the circle, and like a beam – always evolving and dynamic. Malaka Spice embodies this philosophy, serving as a compelling case study for success across industries. The crux to evolution of a business, leading to its success, lies in focusing on the Swami – hood; which is within us. While it is important to focus on crew, team, staff, clients, etc, which are the bedrock of any organization; it is of utmost importance to focus on one’s inner self to make any significant improvement in the long run. Embracing solitude and introspection enables profound self-discovery, fostering essential inner development pivotal for both professional and personal eco-system.Tools like Saptang and Dinacharya further enhance this journey, ensuring the smooth functioning of the Swami within us. Without this internal evolution, external success, is both short-lived, and unenjoyable, not to mention, loses its depth. Thus, cultivating the Swami within, a purpose-driven leader with heightened consciousness, is essential for organizational prosperity.Reflecting on this concept of Swami has sparked a newfound appreciation for personal growth and development.Shared by Saili Jahagirdar Chiranjeev Gurukul Community MemberCompany Name - Zillionth BistroJob Title - Restaurant owner#purpose #personalgrowth #organisationdevelopment #Arthashaastra #Indianbusiness

Amaatya Sampat: Excellences of an Effective ManagerThe Amaatya,or second-in-command, acts as the bridge between the Leader and the organization, responsible for translating purpose into actionable plans. Over the next few weeks, we'll look at six key qualities (there are 24) of an Amaatya.Today, let's explore the concept of Swavagraha.Swavagraha embodies the principle of simple living and high thinking in business management. It champions leaders who prioritize simplicity, efficiency, and principled action over materialistic distractions.Leaders embodying Swavagraha excel in maximizing output with minimal resources, focusing on efficiency and optimal results. In a historical context, figures like Moropant Trimbak Pingle, the Peshwa of the Maratha Empire, exemplified Swavagraha. Despite his high-ranking position, Pingle led a modest life, dedicating himself to governance and serving the people rather than indulging in extravagance. His practical approach to administration ensured the prosperity of the state and its subjects. How do you prioritize simplicity and efficiency in your leadership approach, and how does it contribute to achieving optimal results with minimal resources?Do share your reflections!#Amaatyasampat #excecution #excellences #simpleliving #highthinking

Shubh Akshaya Tritiya from Chiranjeev Gurukul The origin of Akshaya Tritiya is rooted in our Puranas. It's believed to be the day when the sage Ved Vyas began writing the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata.Additionally, it's said that on this day, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Parashuram, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. The word "Akshaya" means eternal, and "Tritiya" refers to the third lunar day. Together, it symbolizes everlasting prosperity and abundance. It is also associated with the story of Krishna offering the Akshaya Patra to the Pandavas during their exile in the Mahabharata. The Akshaya Patra was a magical vessel that provided an unlimited supply of food, ensuring the Pandavas never went hungry during their exile. These are some auspicious events that happened on the day of Akshaya Tritiya and symbolizes abundance and inexhaustible blessings.#inexhaustible #blessings #akshaypatra#itihaas #puranas #eternal
