It's another one of those thingsthat families don't talk about. Perry is the illegitimate son of Don Adshade. He was raisedas Ralph's son, and was known by all as his son. When Don died, Evelyn put up a headstone for Don and listedPerryas son. I have not seen Perry's birth record but it will likely say his father is Ralph Gilroy.
When it comes to creating an accurate genealogical trail, what do you do with something like this? The records show one thing, but the family know otherwise.

Thank you for the explanation.
Your family is not unique as I have a similar situation occurrence on my lineage. I have also come across others in my research over the years.
My paternal great uncle died in 1923. He had been in hospital for 2 months prior to his death suffering from Liver Cancer. 17 months after his death, his widow gave birth to a son in 1925 and my great uncle is listed on the birth certificate as the father. The son's 2009 obit also references my great uncle as his father.
In 1923, Sperm Banks as we know them today had not been invented yet or not readily available to Cumberland County common people.
At least by this info getting out there for the next generation of genealogist that follow, as DNA testing becomes more and more popular, these type of situations will not be a total surprise for younger family members researching after we are long gone.
