A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of June 9-15:

June 10-14Amazing Adventures Camp(Ages 13 & 14)

  • TimberRidge Adventure Center, 12300 S. Homestead Lane, Olathe, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 5 sessions, $225 per person, $250 nonresidents -Survival skills, archery, BB guns, boating, climbing, fishing… it all sounds so good! No need to choose just one. At the Amazing Adventures Camp, you will do a little bit of everything! With an extra day, we’ve added extra fun, including a cookout every Friday! We are sure you will enjoy spending time this summer experiencing the many amazing camp activities TimberRidge Adventure Center (TRAC) has to offer. Camp drop-off and pick-up are at the Whispering Pines Shelter at TimberRidge Adventure Center, and campers will stay at TimberRidge Adventure Center during camp. There is no before and after care provided for this camp. Camp forms will be completed in ePACT and each participant will need a health and liability form signed by a parent or guardian. June 10-14 -Challenge Island: STEAM Tank Entrepreneur(Ages 6-11)

  • Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, 9 a.m. to Noon, 5 sessions, $175 per person, $195 nonresidents -Calling all innovative and inventive kids to an adventure in STEAM and entrepreneurship! You and your team will design, create, and open new businesses every day: From PIZZApreneur Day, SWEETprenur Day to SLIMEtrepreneur Day. Can you convince the island sharks that your STEAM Team’s business belongs in the new Challenge Island Mall? Activity number 34644.

June 10-14 -Discovery: Learning Odyssey Camp - Beach Camp(Ages 6-9)

  • Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, 1 to 4 p.m., 5 sessions, $205 per person, $225 nonresidents -Where the spirit of summer comes alive on the shores of fun and adventure! This beach-themed camp is designed for incoming 1st to 3rd graders and will provide exciting adventures, creative learning, and social activities. All supplies are included, and each camper will create a keepsake album to take home. Please bring a snack and a labeled water bottle. Activity number 34665.

June 10-14 – Discovery: Mad Science© - Claws, Codes, & Cosmos Camp (Ages 7-12)

  • New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Pkwy., near Gardner, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, 5 sessions, $308 per person, $340 nonresidents -Spend five days with Mad Science exploring the "awesomeness" that is science! Discover how to send secret messages to your friends using special codes. Learn about your surrounding environment and how science will help us protect our planet. Explore how Newton's laws are at work in your favorite sport. Explore the mysteries of the solar system. Activity number 34377.

June 10-14 – Maker Labs: Mechanics (Ages 12-17)

  • Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $275 per person, $302 nonresidents -Make games, machines, and other contraptions with everyday materials while learning about simple machines and mechanisms during this week-long camp. Activity number 34398.

June 10-14 – Theatre: Galaxy Far Far Away™ (Ages 8-12)

  • Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $275 per person, $302 nonresidents -Unleash your creativity by embodying beloved characters, refining performance skills at this camp. Design your rebel base, master light saber stage combat, and explore a galaxy far, far away. Bring your cherished tales to life through diverse performing arts activities, ensuring an unforgettable journey through the wonders of Star Wars© and the stage! The camp concludes with a sharing for friends and family. Activity number 33817.

June 10-14 –Theatre: Outdoor Superhero Showtime PreK Camp(Ages 4-7)

  • Meadowbrook Park Grand Pavilion, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 9 a.m. to noon, 5 sessions, $134 per person, $147 nonresidents -Join us for a week of heroic challenges, obstacle courses, and bravery at our Superhero Training Camp. Young heroes will test their strength, agility, and courage as they navigate superhero challenges. They'll design their own superhero masks and capes and explore the qualities of superheroes like courage and kindness through storytelling and role-playing. Unleash your child's inner superhero in this action-packed camp! Activity number 39524.

June 11 -Special Populations: Makerspace(Ages 8 & Older)

  • Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park,, 6 to 7 p.m., $15 per person -Join us for art and inspiration at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Makerspace! Specific details of this project are still in the planning stages; however, it will be fun! Participants must have a current SOKS registration and health history on file prior to participation. Participants are responsible for calling the Rainout Line at (913) 686-6030, x14# for any update or cancelation of this activity. Activity number 39278. JCPRD’s Special Populations programs provide fun, educational, and socializing activities for members of the Johnson County community with special needs.

June 11 (2 separate programs) -HPGC PGA Junior Golf Camp Introductory – Intermediate(Ages 7-14)

  • Heritage Park Golf Course, 16447 Constance St., Olathe, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. or 10 to 11:15, 4 sessions, $150 per person -A junior golf at Heritage Park is a great avenue to learn the game of golf whether they are just starting golf or building on what they have learned. Our camps are about two things—golf and fun. PGA Professionals direct the instruction to provide a supportive and safe environment for your children to improve their golf game. Students will be instructed on putting, chipping, full swing, and we'll use our new "Wee Links" course as well. We teach golf etiquette, history, rules, and technique so your juniors have fun and get a great concept of golf and fundamentals for this life-long game! For either camp, activity number 35449.

June 11, 12 & 14 (3 separate programs) - Pickleball: Three or Four and a Coach (Ages 18 & Older)

  • Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, times vary (see below), 4 sessions, $62 per group, $65 nonresidents -Small group pickleball lessons are an excellent way for individuals of any skill level to learn and improve their pickleball skills. Whether you’re preparing for a tournament and need strategy instruction or have never played and want to learn with your family or close friends. Only one member of the group required to register. Bring your own paddle. Tuesday session from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning June 11, activity number 39132. Wednesday session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning June 12, activity number 39141. Friday session from 9 to 10 a.m. beginning June 14, activity number 39149.

June 11, 13 - Open Water Swim Training (Ages 18 & Older)

  • Shawnee Mission Park Beach, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee & Lenexa, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., $10 per person, $12 nonresidents -Looking to train for an upcoming triathlon or to change up your swim workout? JCPRD offers open water swim training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shawnee Mission Park Beach. All swimmers should be able to swim 500 meters freestyle and have endurance to swim in open water conditions and must bring and wear their tow buoy float at all times while in the water. Lifeguard will be on duty. All participants must be pre-registered by 10 a.m. on the day of the training. A minimum number of participants must be registered or the practice will be canceled. If a participant is registered for a canceled practice date, a full refund will be given. June 11 session activity number 35160 and June 13 session activity number 35161. June 12 -Museum: Retro Storytime - "A Day at the Seashore"(All Ages)

  • Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 10 to 10:45 a.m., $2 per person, free for museum members -Preschoolers love stories from long ago, read by a special guest from the 1950s All-Electric House! In this story, Nancy and Timmy hop out of their beds one summer morning and help pack their swimsuits and lunch. And then it's off to the seashore! In a charming rhyme, this Little Golden Book from 1951 describes what preschoolers will find there. Create a beach-themed craft after the story ends. Activity number 35144.

June 14 - Adventure Walk: Wyandotte County Lake Park (Ages 50 & Older)

  • Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., $25 per person, $27 nonresidents -Towering trees will guide us along the wooded trail throughout this popular Kansas City park. Our well-deserved post workout meal will be at Mason Jar Brews and Burgers. Lunch costs on your own. Activity number 39070.

June 14 - Preschool: Sunny Days Picnic Party (Ages 2-5 with Adult)

  • Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., $8 per person, $9 nonresidents -NEW!Bring your little ones and let them bask in the sunshine as we celebrate the joys of summer with delicious picnic treats, games, and delightful summer activities. Activity number 39044.

June 14-16 & June 20-22 - Anastasia The Musical at Theatre in the Park (Rated PG)

7710 Renner Road, Shawnee, 8:30 p.m., Tickets are $10 (plus tax) for general admission, $7 (plus tax) for youth (Ages 4-10), Children 3 & under are FREE (but require a ticket.) -This dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family. The box office opens at 7 p.m., gates open at 7:30 p.m., show begins at 8:30 p.m. Buy tickets onsite or online. June 15 deadline, trip takes place Sept. 16-20 – (Ages 50 & Older)

  • Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, – 5 days, 4 nights, includes nine meals, $1,299 per person for double occupancy, or $1,599 for single occupancy -At the Ark Encounter, you will experience the massive ancient wonder of the lifesaving ark. This ark was built using the same measurements laid out in The Book of Genesis. The exhibits within are made using the same care for detail. On your second morning of the tour, journey to the Creation Museum, the largest biblical creation museum with displays, botanical gardens, a planetarium, and a zoo! Your final full day will be spent in the present, in the nearby city of Louisville. This can't miss spot is home to the Sluggers Museum and Factory where you will discover baseball history and America's favorite pastime.
